Copycat: Nicky Hilton

Ok, I know, a Hilton sister... blah.  But Nicky doesn't bother me as much as Paris, and her dress is ridiculously cute, so what can I do?

*Image via People.

I've been wanting a sequin dress for a while now.  I think it's really cute for holiday parties, New Year's Eve, or even a winter wedding.  If the pattern is too much for you, there are plenty of cute options in solid colors as well.

1. Jessica Simpson Sequin Dress - $148.00 via Dillard's
2. Blaque Label Sequin Mini Dress - $119.00 via Boutique To You
3. TFNC Long Sleeve Sequin Dress - $99.99 via ASOS
4. The Tee by Joe's King Sequin Dress - $220.00 via Bloomingdale's

Would you wear this look?  Which is your fave?

Black Friday.

Do y'all shop the sales?  My mom and I never really got into it... since most of the deals last through the weekend, we tend to wait until Saturday when things are little calmer, and then we hit up the outlets.  Or I hit up the online sales.

If y'all are braving the crowds, good luck!  Below are a few snaps from my day yesterday...

Holiday. Celebrate.

J and I are off to Florida this afternoon to be with my family!  Plans include a Thanksgiving morning Turkey Trot, stuffing our faces, watching lots of football, and some outlet shopping.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

Wishful Thinking: November 22.

We are having some crazy weather here in SC.  It's supposed to be in the upper 70s today, but last week I needed jeans and sweaters.  I've already switched out a lot of my closet, so getting dressed has been somewhat of a challenge.  This is what I wish I could be wearing...

1. Steve Madden Tanggoo Bootie - $79.95 via Zappos
2. Mackage Leather Jacket - $ $1250.00 via Barney's
3. Parker Long-Sleeve Dress - $242.00 via Barney's
4. Merona Fashion Tights - $8.00 via Target
5. Toggle Bar Charm Neckalce - $54.00 via Bauble Bar

Moonstruck.

It has been so long since I posted outfit pictures, and I've missed it.  These are just a few quick snaps from yesterday.  I wore this outfit to brunch and then to meet some friends at the oyster festival (where it poured the whole time, unfortunately).

Dress: Tucker via Gilt Groupe; Blazer: Urban Outfitters (old); Flats: Lindsay Phillips; Earrings: Versona Accessories (c/o).

A few weeks ago, a Versona store opened in Columbia, and they were nice enough to send me a gift card so that I could go check it out. (Thank you!)  First of all, it is HUGE, and second of all, there was a whole table of animal jewelry, so I became a fan pretty much immediately.  These little owls were my favorite, but they have a whole bunch of really cute stuff, so if you're ever out at Sandhills, definitely go check it out.

Retail Therapy: Rifle Paper Co.

Hands down, the cutest stationary your money can buy... the hand-painted designs, the gorgeous lettering.  How lovely would it be to receive one of those custom portrait Christmas cards?  Or one of those beautiful black thank you cards?  It's all just so, so good.

Thirsty Thursday: Loeffler Randall Esther Platform

I do not own any Loeffler Randall shoes, but I love them so.  Some day soon (like maybe when I get a full-time job, hmmm) I will be adding a pair of their boots to my closet.  In the meantime, I'll just continue drooling on my keyboard whenever I visit their site.  Today I'm loving these gorgeous navy heels.  Finding a non-matronly pair of navy pumps is not easy, but these are gorge.

Beauty Secrets.

When it comes to my beauty and skincare routine, I tend to use a mix of higher end products (mostly makeup) and drugstore finds.  Maybe that's the opposite of what it should be, but honestly, I can't afford to spend $100 on night cream.  Over the years, I've come across several products that I think are really worth sharing.

1. Pssssst! Dry Shampoo ($6ish/drugstores): Spray it in, leave it on for a few minutes, then your comb hair.  The can is huge, and the spray doesn't leave any white residue.  What else do you need for $6?
2. L'Oreal Revitalift Deep Set Wrinkle Repair Night Cream - ($15ish/Target or drugstores): I'm pretty sure that any wrinkles that I have do not qualify as "deep set" but you can never be too cautious, right?  I don't normally notice much difference with wrinkle creams, but this one does seem to be helping make my forehead look a little smoother.
3. Goody Spin Pins - ($6ish for 2/drugstores): These things are awesome.  Twist your hair into a bun, insert spin pin, done.  You probably can't run a marathon with just one pin in, but it will hold your hair out of your face for the day.  And no more elastics cutting off the circulation on your wrist!
4. L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray - ($15ish/Target or Ulta): There's a reason this stuff is legendary; because it's the best hairspray ever.  It has great hold, but it's not sticky once it dries, and it brushes out easily.
5. Cutex Manicure Correction Pen - ($8ish/drugstores): The pen has a pointy tip that dispenses nail polish remover when you apply pressure.  It makes correcting slip ups really clean and easy, so your home manicures look more professional.
6. Olay Pro X Advanced Cleansing System - ($30/Target):  This little brush is so awesome.  It's super soft, but it has plenty of power, and it makes my skin feel amazing.  I don't love that it uses batteries instead of a charger, but for the price, it does basically everything else that other brush does.

Ok, so do y'all have any other great drugstore beauty secrets we should all know about?  Share in the comments!

*Legalese: This is not a sponsored post.  I just like this stuff, and I actually use it, so I thought I'd share it with y'all.

Preppy Plaid.

One of my favorite cold-weather casual looks is a plaid shirt layered under a cozy sweater.  Paired with skinny jeans and loafers, this is preppiness at its finest.  A solid sweater works just fine, but if you have a striped sweater in a matching color, this is a really easy way to do some pattern mixing.

Blue.

Basically all of these items are on my Christmas list in some variation... can't wait to put together a similar outfit!

1. J.Crew No. 2 Pencil Skirt - $120.00
2. Spike the Punch Neckalce - $36.00
3. Nine West Aroundtown Mary Jane - $49.50 (50% off right now!)
4. Zara Polka Dot Shirt - $59.90

Thirsty Thursday: Michael Kors Fringed Leather Mini Skirt

My quest to find the perfect leather skirt continues.  I've tried a few different styles, but I haven't gotten quite the right fit yet.  In my search I came across this super fun little number.  It's not what I'm looking for (or even remotely in my price range), but it was so cute I had to feature it anyway.

Two Toned.

So I find myself in the unfortunate predicament of having both my black and brown riding boots in need of replacement in the same season. (I try to alternate years, if possible.) In an effort to not spend a million dollars on boots this year, I'm thinking of splitting the difference...

1. Lauren by Ralph Lauren Sonya Riding Boots - $229.00 via Zappos
2. Tory Burch Flannel Blaire Riding Boots - $495.00
3. BDG Tall Leather Colorblock Boot - $129.00 via Urban Outfitters
4. Lauren by Ralph Lauren Sagira Boots - $229.00 via Piperlime
5. DVF Gwen Riding Boots - $498.00 via Jildor Shoes

Winter Shorts.

Oxymoron?  Possibly.  This is another look (like the cape) that I probably would never have considered wearing before I started blogging, but I really like it.  It seems to me that the key is to have actual "winter" shorts (i.e. in a heavier fabric like wool or suede) that you wouldn't necessarily be able to wear in the warmer months.  What do y'all think?

1. Twenty8Twelve Suede Shorts - $115.00 via MyTheresa
2. Old Navy Herringbone Cuffed Shorts - $19.99
3. Topshop Rust Faux Leather Trim Tweed Shorts - $76.00
4. LC Lauren Conrad Pleated Faux Leather Shorts - $37.50 via Kohl's

Cape Crusader.

So I've decided that I do, in fact, like this whole cape trend.  Personally, I'd go for a longer cut, with clean lines and in a classic color like camel or black.  I think you need to keep it simple in order to avoid looking like a fashion victim.

1. Topshop Oatmeal Borg Collar Cape - $160.00
2. Victoria's Secret Faux Fur-Trim Cape - $158.00
3. Juicy Couture Jane Wool-Blend Cape - $300.00 via Net-A-Porter
4. Vince Camuto Toggle Closure Cape - $199.00
5. Chris & Jamie Trench Cape - $275.00 via Barney's

How do y'all feel about capes?  Do you have one?  Would you wear one?

Copycat: Charlize Theron

Lace is having a moment right now.  I think a dress like this would be so cute for holiday parties and/or winter weddings.  Charlize's version is Dior, but I found three options for $250 or less.

*Image via People.

1. Michael Michael Kors Belted Lace-Print Silk Dress - $250.00 via Net-A-Porter
2. REISS Kimmy Lace Jersey Dress - $172.00
3. Topshop Bonded Lace Pencil Dress- $80.00

PS - Sorry for the light posting this week.  J and I are headed down to Florida tonight for my 10 year high school reunion (OMG) tomorrow.  So between that and both of us being deathly ill just 5 days ago, this week really got away from me.  Things should be back to normal on Monday!  Have a fun weekend!

Thirsty Thursday: Kelly Wearstler Horizon Coat

I first saw this coat on Blair of Atlantic-Pacific, and I bookmarked the link meaning to use it for this post, and... then I forgot about it.  But yesterday, Rebecca of Young Sophisticates brought it back to my attention.  How great is this beauty?!

{Kelly Wearstler Horizon Coat - $535.00}

I know cool is a totally played-out adjective, but this coat is just straight up cool.

Wanderlust Wednesday: The District

D.C. is a special city for me - it's where I moved right after I graduated college.  It was the first place where I was an adult on my own terms, and for that, I will love it forever.  And despite its reputation, it's actually not all politics and pantsuits.  There is a growing fashion scene, tons and tons of great museums (obvs), seriously good restaurants and bars.  Plus, since it's our nation's capital, so it's basically your patriotic duty to visit at least once.  And if you go, you should stay at the Park Hyatt in my old 'hood, Foggy Bottom.  It doesn't have the best hotel bar (that's the W), but it's a got a darn good restaurant (the Blue Duck Tavern), and the interior design is super chic.

*Images via Hyatt.

Like the Park Hyatt, my ideal DC outfit is polished, and classic, with fun touches on conservative shapes and styles.  Those shoes... dying.

Mountain Majesties.

Before J and I were hit with the plague early Sunday morning, we were having a super fun mountain weekend with some friends up in North Carolina.  On Saturday, we went hiking off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and I took a few pictures with my phone.  (I'm PennyCharlie on Instagram.  Follow me if you're dying to see lots of pictures of... well, Penny and Charlie.  Use this if you don't have an iPhone.)

Out Sick.

I'm sorry for not posting yesterday, or today, really.  I am battling some kind of horrific stomach bug, and it has me down for the count.  After 48 hours, I'm starting to feel better, so hopefully things will be back to normal tomorrow.
