Retail Therapy: Elegant Touch

Ok, y'all already know that I have thing for fun pillows.  The problem is that most of the ones I love are waaaaayyyy out of my price range, so I'm constantly scouting Etsy for more reasonable options.  Last week I stumbled upon this shop, and guess what?  It's based in Columbia!  How cool is that?  And how awesome are these pillows?

*Prices vary - check the store here.

Opposites Attract.

Y'all know I love tweed for fall.  I have a sick tweed cropped jacket from H&M that I can't wait to wear.  And as you know from this morning's post, a leather skirt to pair it with is on my fall wishlist.  I absolutely love this look, and I can't wait to test it out myself.

Jackets (Top to Bottom): The Outnet; The Outnet; Topshop
Skirts (Top to Bottom): Topshop; Reiss; The Outnet

What do y'all think?  Would you wear the tweed + leather combo?

Thirsty Thursday: BCBG Sunburst Faux Leather Skirt

I am dyyyying to have this skirt.  I love how it's a classic, sophisticated silhouette amped up by the faux leather material.

{BCBG Elsa Sunburst-Pleated Faux-Leather Skirt - $248.00 via Lord & Taylor}

Check back later this afternoon for some more budget-friendly (or friendlier) options, and how I would wear it.

Fall Color Palette: Gray + Red

One more color palette idea for y'all.  This time the inspiration came from my girl Emma Stone.  I love the gray with red for fall, and when you need to transition to spring, just switch out the red accents for peach/blush colored ones.

1. Rebecca Taylor Crepe Dress - $182.50 via The Outnet
2. Michael Antonio Loveme Suede Pump - $49.00 via Endless
3. Aldo Klingner Satchel - $38.00 via Zappos

5. Vince Camuto Enamel Cuff - $48.00
6. T by Alexander Wang Jersey Jacket - $87.75 via The Outnet
7. Alternative Eco Bundle-Up - $38.00 via Piperlime

PS - Just to be clear... I don't necessarily advocate wearing everything in these collages all at once.  They're just meant to be examples to get your own creative juices flowing.

Animal Print... Literally.

I've noticed a new take on "animal print" lately.  Designers are taking it literally, and I think it's super cute.  What do y'all think?

September 26, 2011

After my 5K yesterday, J and I went home to get cleaned up and get ready for the food-tasting portion of the festival.  It was SO HOT, so please excuse my red, sweaty face.  We had a lot of fun anyway though, and we got to try food from tons of local restaurants.  Unfortunately, we inhaled most of it before I could get pictures, so you're just gonna have to make do with some outfit shots.

Dress - BB Dakota via Bohemian; Necklace - Anthro (old); Sandals - Mia via Zappos; Bag - Steve Madden via TJ Maxx; Ring - Vintage (used to be my Mawmaw's); Sunglasses - Marc by Marc Jacobs (gift from J)

Retail Therapy: Spike The Punch

Is it already Friday?  This week was one of those rare ones that seemed to fly by.  We've got a lot on tap this weekend with (another!) baby shower tonight, (another!) tailgate on Saturday, and a 5K, Viva La Vista, and family birthday party on Sunday.  Phew.

If you've got a few minutes before the fun starts, definitely check out this neon goodness from Spike The Punch.

{Spike The Punch Necklaces - $36.00}

Happy Friday, y'all!  Hope you have fun one!

Thirsty Thursday: Vince Cocoon Cable Cardigan

One of the items on my fall wish list is a big cozy cable-knit sweater.  I really like this one from Vince because it's got a chunky knit, but it's still fitted so you wouldn't look like a linebacker in it.

Copycat: Emma Watson

Hermione and I would definitely have been friends in school, and by all reports Emma Watson is a lovely person in real life as well.  I think her personal style is darn near impeccable.  She always looks chic, but she's not afraid to take risks either.

*Image via People.

Maybe it's my Scottish blood, but I'm partial to tartan, and I love how Emma pairs hers with a leather jacket.  Her dress alone costs about $800, but I found some similar pieces to help you recreate the entire outfit for less than that.

1. Etoile Isabel Marant Georget Tartan Dress - $380.00 via Net-A-Porter
2. Antica Murrina Murano Glass Charm Bracelet - $48.00 via Forzieri
3. Nine West Flax Pump - $75.00 via Endless
4. Veda Prayer Jacket - $264.00 via The Outnet

If you (understandably) don't have $380 to spend on a tartan dress, you could try this option for under $100.  And if you're not sure about the traditional bright red pattern, the look also works in more muted tones or a black and white palette.

Dark Blue.

On Sunday, I went to a baby shower for a sweet friend who's expecting a baby boy in a few weeks.  Afterwards, I needed to run some errands, and then I had to pick up J to go to church.  I needed to be comfortable and cute, and WARM since it's only been in the 60s around here (yay!) the past few days.  This is my favorite dress, so I'm sure y'all will see it a few more times.

Dress - Tucker via Gilt; Heels - Missoni for Target; Belt - J.Crew (similar); Bag - Marc by Marc Jacobs; Necklace - Emma Stine

PS - Could I smile any harder in that second picture?  Yeesh.

Fall Color Palette: Emerald + Rust.

Emerald green is my favorite color.  It just looks right on me, and I scooped up an emerald polka dot blouse from Zara when I was in NYC, so I'm pretty excited to try out this palette.

Retail Therapy: Lands' End Canvas

We all know that I love a crazy shoe or a statement necklace as much as the next girl.  But a wardrobe that works for day-to-day life is built on quality, classic basics.  One of my go-to places to for these kinds of items is Lands' End Canvas.  Their clothes are well-made, reasonably priced, their customer service is excellent, and, as a bonus, they tend to run big so you can safely order a size down on almost everything.  (It's called vanity sizing for a reason, people.)  You're not going to find fashion-forward, formal pieces here, but for casual staples there are not many brands who do it better, at least in my opinion.

2. Field Coat - $99.50

3. Split-Neck Dress - $89.50

1. Rail Straight Chino - $59.50
3. Lightweight Twill Overcoat - $59.99 (sale)

Hope y'all have a good weekend!  J and I have a fun one planned with the Greek Festival tonight, tailgating tomorrow, and a baby shower on Sunday.  TGIF!

Thirsty Thursday: Rebecca Minkoff Covet

I covet Covet.  Oh yes, I do... especially in this gorgeous, spicy red that is just perfect for fall.

{Rebecca Minkoff Covet - $395.00}

Fall Color Palette: Coral + Bordeaux

I'm finally continuing the Fall Color Palette series that I started before I left for my NYC break.  I'm particularly excited about today's combo because I *may* have gone a little overboard with the coral craze this summer, and I definitely need to make sure those purchases can work into the fall as well.

Some inspiration...

1. Burgundy Mesh Stud Earrings - $12.00 via Topshop
2. Bauble Bar Coral Pop Strand - $62.00
3. Charles Jourdan Collection Elegant Pump - $245.00 via Endless
4. Chinti and Parker Woven Shirt - $140.00 via Net-A-Porter
5. Essie "Carry On" Nail Polish - $8.00
6. Diane von Furstenberg Rein Ann Wide Leg Pants - $345.00 via Shopbop

Lace + Leopard.

I wore this outfit to our Dinner Club/Gamecocks tailgate on Saturday afternoon.  I love this lacy shirt so much.  It's one of my NYC purchases, and I know I will wear it to death.  And since I rediscovered these shoes the other day, and I can't stop wearing them.  I've had them for years, but they got tucked into the very bottom pocket of my shoe organizer, and I forgot about them.  I wore them to Publix, and the man restocking the produce told me they were "fierce."

Top - Aritzia; Jeans - Uniqlo; Heels - Guess via Nordstrom (old); Belt - J.Crew (similar); Necklace - Premier; Bracelet - ?? in Charleston.

PS - It's Missoni for Target day!  What are y'all gonna be buying?  I'm gonna have to restrain myself.

Fall Top Five.

So my BFF from law school has a really great super-lawyer job in Chicago.  She asked me if I would do a post on what she should be buying for fall, and yesterday was her birthday, so Natty, these are the things that you should be buying with your birthday/Big Law money.

1.  Tie-Front Blouse: Great for work or with jeans on the weekend.  And don't be afraid to tie a big bow - keep the bottoms tailored and it will be super chic.

1. BLK DNM Shirt 6 - $190.00
2. Bellatrix Tie Neck Chiffon Blouse - $78.00 via Nordstrom
3. Pleione Dotted Tie Front Blouse - $68.00 via Nordstrom
4. Ark & Co. Tie-Neck Secretary Blouse - $49.00 via Piperlime
5. ASOS Pussybow Blouse - $54.89

2. Colorful Pants - Stick with skinny silhouettes, and choose a non-denim fabric to make them work for the office.  Personally, I like the cropped versions the best, but there are plenty of cute full-length options out there too.

1. J.Crew Wool Cafe Capri - $118.00
3. ASOS Slim Cropped Pant - $45.74
3. Zara Front Seam Trousers - $59.90

3. Vest - I'm a recent convert to Team Vest, but they really are fun and a great way to add something different to an outfit.  You've got tons of options here from faux fur to military styles... just please no puffers.

1. J.Crew Flak Trench Vest - $170.00 via Net-A-Porter
2. Rachel Roy Leather Hooded Vest - $229.00
3. Hive & Honey Shearling Vest - $69.00 via Piperlime
4. Damselle Faux Fur Vest - $98.00 via Nordstrom

4. Python Accessories - While leopard print is a classic and never goes out of style, the hottest animal print this season is definitely python.  I like it small doses like on a clutch or heels.

1. Ann Taylor Mini Python Pump - $178.00
2. Stephanie Johnson Medium Flat Pouch - $28.00 via Neiman Marcus
3. Leighelena Double Wrap Bracelet - $124.00 via Endless
4. Elaine Turner Bella Striped Python Clutch - $195.00 via National Jean Company

5. Pleated Maxi Skirt - One of my go-to summer styles, but if you layer it up with a cozy fisherman's sweater on top and thick tights underneath, you'll be able to wear it far into the fall and winter.

1. Aqua Distress Pleat Maxi Skirt - $88.00 via Bloomingdale's
2. ASOS Pleated Maxi Skirt - $91.48
3. Aryn K. Pleated Maxi Skirt - $66.00 via Piperlime

I would also include high-heeled loafers on this list, but I already did a post on those, and Fall Top Five sounds better than Fall Top Six anyway.  (Hope this helps, Nat!)

September 10, 2011

I don't usually post on Saturdays, but I thought that this weekend was a particularly appropriate time to share a few extra snaps of New York City.  I hope y'all are having a great weekend, and if you have a chance to hug someone you love, or do a random act of kindness for a stranger, do it to remember all the stories of love and kindness that emerged from 9/11.
