Fall Color Palette: Turquoise + Camel

So it's the last day of August, y'all.  How did that happen?  That means that, if I'm lucky, I've only got another month or so of scorching temperatures, so right now I'm starting to think about transitioning my wardrobe into fall.  As we all know, brights were huge this spring and summer, and they definitely still are for fall.  The key is going to be to tone them down by pairing them with more traditionally autumnal colors.

For example, turquoise with camel...

Perfect Pink.

This shirt is crazy bright, and I love it.  It's also super comfortable, and therefore perfect for throwing on to run around visiting cute little nugget babies and shopping for furniture (which is what I did on Saturday afternoon when I wore this).

DIY: Spiked Shoes.

So my version of the Sam Edelman booties came out a little more... spikey... than I originally intended.  But you can play around with the materials you want to use and make yours however you want - the basic steps are the same, and they are ridiculously simple.

First, gather your supplies.  You'll need: (1) booties, (2) Gem Tac glue, (3) 2 packs of rhinestones, (4) spikes or studs.

The "spikes" that I used are actually beads that I got from A.C. Moore.  It took about 12 packets of beads (with 12 in each packet) to do both shoes.  Check out this website for plenty of other options.

I started by lining the zipper with the spikes.

Then I started filling in the back and the heel alternating spikes and rhinestones.

I kept going all the way down the heel, leaving about a quarter of an inch at the bottom.

I tried to get some pictures of me actually wearing the booties, but the light in the house is just not strong enough.  They were all super blurry.  But I kind of like the idea of saving their official debut for the mean streets of NYC... they're definitely big city shoes, don't you think?

A few tips:

1. I found that it was easiest to squirt a blob of the glue onto a paper towel and dip the spikes into it.  Let it sit out for 10 mins or so before you start so the glue gets a little tacky, and it will hold much better.

2. When I started adding the rhinestones, I got a Q-tip and cut one of the fluffy ends off.  Then I dipped the cut-off end into the glue, dabbed it onto the shoe, and then stuck the rhinestones on.

3.  The glue will dry clear, but if you get a big glob, you'll be able to see it up close, so be careful.

4.  Let the glue dry at least overnight before wearing them.

What do y'all think?  Would you wear some majorly spikey shoes?

Thirsty Thursday: Sam Edelman Renzo Bootie

Ummm, yes.  I am in love with this shoe.  It's somehow proper and punk rock at the same time, and that is awesome.

{Sam Edelman Renzo Bootie - $250.00 via Endless}

The only thing wrong with this beauty is that I do not currently have, and probably will not ever have, $250.00 to spend on a single pair of shoes.  Therefore, I had to get crafty... check back tomorrow for the DIY version!

And don't forget to like the Penny Loves Charlie Facebook page!

Penny Pumps.

I definitely had a pair of these in middle school, big chunky heel and all.  I should've kept them, because penny loafer pumps are big for fall.  I love how ladylike they are, given that the penny loafer is usually a more masculine look.

1. J.Crew Biella Satin High-Heeled Loafer - $295.00
2. Envy Penny Pump - $41.25 via Endless
3. Naughty Monkey Retro Glam Loafer Pump - $99.00 via Piperlime

6. ASOS Scholar Crinkle Patent Loafer -$82.33

PS - Penny Loves Charlie has a Facebook page! I would really love for y'all to like it, if you're so inclined.

Copycat: Cameron Diaz

Cameron's outfit here is so simple and super easy to recreate on your own.  I love classic pieces pumped up with a little edge, and this outfit is great example of how to do that.  The studded heels and matching gold bangles on each wrist take basic black and white from boring to sexy.

Not Pajamas.

I went bargain hunting again this weekend, and these shorts were one of my finds.  They're from Lauren Conrad's line for Kohl's, which is surprisingly cute in person.  The only problem with them is that they kind of resemble pajama bottoms, so in order to counter the bedtime feel I decided to pair them with my trusty (French blue) chambray shirt, and then I added the clutch for a pop of color.

Retail Therapy: Society Social

Society Social is a just-launched line featuring everything you need for stylish, colorful entertaining.  I don't know about y'all, but I am DYING over the bar carts.  I have been searching high and low for stylish carts that don't cost a fortune, and The Double (or maybe The Draper) is the answer to my prayers.  Make sure you check out the site and definitely spend a few minutes browsing the magalog.  (That's "magazine catalog" for those of you not up on Social lingo.)

What do y'all think?  Super cute, right?

Thirsty Thursday: David Aubrey Jewelry

I had to restrain myself yesterday afternoon when Gilt's David Aubrey sale went live.  I didn't buy anything, but I want about 20 pieces.  I love his designs - the bright blocks of colors are right up my alley.  I'm currently coveting this necklace in particular...

Copycat: Katie Holmes

People claims this is Katie Holmes, but she looks an awful lot like Rachel Bilson in this picture to me.  Either way, Katie/Rachel is wearing a really cute outfit.  I don't really do hats, but I definitely think it takes this particular look from just fine to definitely cool.

*Image via People.

All of these pieces are under $100 (most under $50) and the heels are Vince Camuto, just like Katie's.  I think this is a really cute summer-to-fall outfit.  What do y'all think?

Rawrrrrr.

Ever since I set eyes on these jeans, I have been absolutely dying for a pair.  However, even though I'm crazy enough to wear the heck out of them, I am not crazy enough to pay $200 for them.  So, I've been waiting and waiting for a cute but more reasonably priced option to come along.  Yesterday I was poking around the Gap website looking for something else, when I spied these puppies.  SOLD.

1. Current Elliot The Stiletto Leopard Print Jeans - $198.00 via Nordstrom
2. Etoile Isabel Marant Wabi Leopard Print Cords - $395.00 via Net-A-Porter
3. Gap 1969 Cheetah Print Legging Jeans - $69.95 (on sale for $49.95!)
4. Tripp NYC Leopard Jeans - $66.00 via Urban Outfitters

What do y'all think?  Would you wear leopard print jeans?

Classic Combo.

Black and white never gets old.  If you're going to make an investment this season, you can't go wrong with any of these...

For Show.

Last night J and I had plans to go see Cave of Forgotten Dreams.  Instead we decided to stay home and cook and watch a movie on the couch.  Happily, when we opened On Demand, we found out Cave is offered there, so that was pretty awesome.  But since I had been thinking about my outfit all day, because I wanted to wear my new vest, I had J take some outfit pictures anyway.  Hopefully this weekend I will be able to wear this outfit somewhere other than my front porch during a rainstorm.

Dress: Tucker for Target; Vest: Old Navy; Sandals: Nine West via TJ Maxx; Clutch: Clare Vivier; Bracelet: ?? via Just The Thing; Earrings: MRE Jewelry via HauteLook.

I got this vest this past weekend, and I have to say, I was very impressed with Old Navy's offerings for fall.  They have some realllllly cute stuff right now.  The vest purchase was the culmination of a weekend full of crazy good deals.  If you follow me on Twitter, you already know about THE shoes.  I also got the blue studded bracelet for 70% off, and for the vest, I had a 30% off coupon (check the August issue of Lucky for a tear out to use in stores - it's good until August 15).  On top of everything else, it was tax-free weekend!

Missoni for Target.

Mark your calendars, chickadees.  On September 13, the Missoni for Target collection hits stores, and there is some gooooood stuff to be had.  Target finally released some promo photos yesterday, and these are my favorites.

*Images via all the way up here.

There are 400 pieces in the collection, so this is just the tip of the iceberg, but I especially love the shorts and scarves in those last two photos.  What do y'all think about what we've seen so far?

Thirsty Thursday: Lands' End Canvas Paxton Wedge

Yesterday Living Social had a half-off deal for Lands' End Canvas.  I jumped on it as soon as I saw it, because LEC is one of my favorite brands.  (They send you handwritten thank you notes with your orders, y'all.)

Do you think it would be crazy to use my deal on red suede desert boots?  Because I really like these...

Baby Animals.

Is there anything cuter than baby animals?  Bri posted about Sharon Montrose's photographs last week, but I've been trying to convince Jimmy to let me buy some of these prints for months.  While I think they are awesome and would look good anywhere, how totally cute would these look in a nursery?  (Disclaimer: We have no need for a nursery.  Don't get excited, Mom.)

*Images via 20x200.

You can purchase prints from Montrose's Animal Print Shop, or check out her limited edition prints on 20x200.  (20x200 is awesome, by the way; cool art and really affordable prices.  It's where J and I bought these.)

Tell me which one is your favorite!  I really can't get over that monkey.

Good News... Part Two.

Sorry that today's post is up a bit late.  Yesterday was one of those days where my real life was nonstop.  My little brother was in town for the night, so $1 slices at my favorite dive bar took precedence over writing a post.

Anyway, hopefully by now you've heard the glorious news - Zara is starting e-commerce in the US on September 7!  To whet your appetite, here are some gorgeoussssss looks from their  Fall/Winter campaign.

What do y'all think?  Are you as excited as I am?

Copycat: Ciara

Ciara wore this colorful tie-dyed skirt and jean jacket to the airport, and I think it's cute enough for wearing around town shopping or to a casual dinner.  Luckily, you can get her exact skirt for less than $100, making it a budget friendly outfit.

Thirsty Thursday: ASOS Mini Dress

I think this dress is just so cute.  The rope detail is great for summer, but if you add a navy blazer and tights, it will work just as well in the fall too.  (I know, I know... it's literally 100 degrees outside, but it never hurts to be stocking up on transitional items.)

{ASOS Mini Dress with Rope Belt - $86.20}

Wanderlust Wednesday: Acapulco

How amaaaaaaazing would it be to be sitting poolside in Mexico with this view?  I'm ready to go right now.

*Images via Grupo Habita.

I love the retro vibe of the hotel and all the bright tropical colors, so I think an outfit inspired by the 50s, but still casual and chic, would be perfect to wear.
