Copycat: Brooklyn Decker.

While I'm not a fan of Brooklyn's new hair cut (it ages her 10 years), she's still obviously a very good looking lady, and her outfit here is super cute.  It's a pretty simple ensemble, and even though it's layered, it's still easy and breezy enough for summer.

1. Nine West Hey Jute Leopard Foldover Clutch - $45.50
2. French Connection Solar Stretch Dress - $149.99
3.  Royal Love Military Vest - $12.99 via Tilly's
4. Steve Madden Premieer Mary Jane Pump - $79.95 via Endless
5. Kenneth Cole New York Urban Turquoise Earrings - $50.00 via Endless

Can y'all believe that this weekend is the Fourth of July?  That means that the summer is half gone!  How is that possible?  Anyway, we'll be celebrating with a pool day and BBQ, and I hope to be wearing something as cute, comfy, and all-American as this...

What are your plans?  Beach? Mountains? Country club?  Tell me in the comments.

My Gators and Jimmy's Gamecocks are currently facing off in the College World Series.  And on Saturday night, I wore some school colors to our supper club to show my support.  (Not really - I wore them because I thought they looked good and when I looked in the mirror I thought "Oh, Gator colors.  Bonus.")  But hey, I'm almost always the only Gator fan around so I have to represent, you know?

Shirt: J.Crew Outlet; Skirt: Urban Outfitters; Sandals: Target; Necklace: Premier Designs; Bag: H&M.

I try not to Photoshop my pictures too much, except to play around with the fun filters in Picnik, but I had some nasty scabs on my knees from Crossfit, so I got rid of those for y'all.  You're welcome.  I left my rope burn though, which you can see above my right ankle in the first and last pictures.  I'm kind of proud of that one.

PS - Sorry about no post yesterday.  Blogger is a cranky old B sometimes.  Hopefully things are back to normal now.

Did y'all ever trade friendship bracelets as a kid?  The ones we had were woven with colored beads and each bead meant something : joy, peace, health, etc.  And you were supposed to wear them until the beads fell off in order to ensure that you got the benefits or something like that.  Anyway, friendship bracelets are back, but in a grown up way.

1. Stephan & Co. Braided Cord and Chain Bracelet - $12.00 via Nordstrom
2. Madewell Wanderlust Siem Reap Friendship Bracelets - $10.00
3. Juicy Couture Embellished Friendship Bracelet - $38.00 via Zappos Couture

If you've read this blog for more than one day, you know that is hot in Columbia.  I complain, but really I love summer, and I love the heat.  I would much rather be sweating (like a whore in church, if you wanna get real Southern about it) than be cold.  The problem is that it's too hot for clothes outside, but people blast the AC, so it's freezing when you go inside.  My solution: a slouchy crochet sweater.  A sweater with holes in it - the perfect compromise.

1. Elizabeth and James Dottie Crochet Sweater - $110.00 via Net-A-Porter
2. Crochet Open Cardigan - $26.50 via Old Navy
3. Delia's Crochet Stitch Open Cardigan - $39.50
4. French Connection Lola Knits Jumper - $99.99

Great Whites.

So today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, and the first official day of summer.  To celebrate, I think an all white ensemble is in order.

I've never worn an all-white outfit before.  Mostly because I'm afraid there is no way I could keep it clean all day long, but I might have to give it a try today.  What do y'all think?  Would you wear all white?

June 20, 2011

Do you guys have a summer playlist?  I don't know what it is, but every summer I seem to get stuck on a few songs that I play on repeat for months.  Some of them are new songs, some have been around for a while; it's just whatever gets in my head - which means everything from rap to (kind of a lot of) real country.  This is kind of a random post, but hopefully y'all like it!  It's fun to switch it up every now and then, right?  (Just be careful, not all of these are work-friendly tunes... Kreayshawn, I'm looking at you.)

1. Sydney (I'll Come Running) - Brett Dennen.  If you follow me on Twitter, you're probably sick of hearing about this song (I know J is rolling his eyes so hard right now), but I'm just obsessed with it.  It makes me happy every time I hear it.

2. Helena Beat - Foster The People.  I am the last one to know about Foster the People?  Their sound is not what I would usually be into, but for whatever reason, I'm really digging it right now.  Pumped Up Kicks is great, but I think this one is my fave.

3. Gucci Gucci - Kreayshawn.  I'm so glad this song is finally on iTunes.  It's so ridiculous and awesome.  "I got the swag and it's pumping out my oavaries."

4.  Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) - Katy Perry.  I hate Lady Gaga, and I love Katy Perry.  There, I said it.

5. Turning Tables - Adele.  Rolling In The Deep is clearly awesome, but I'm getting pretty sick of it.  I've been listening one to this to get my Adele fix instead.

6.  El Camino - Amos Lee feat. Willie Nelson.  Two of my favorite artists.  Amos's latest CD is so great - it's full of summery chill songs, and a bunch of great collaborations.  I think this one with Willie Nelson is so beautiful.  Willie's voice gives me chills every time.

7. Harlem River Blues - Justin Townes Earle.  Gritty bluesy country from the super-talented son of Steve Earle.  This whole album is killer... it took me like 20 minutes to decide which song I wanted to include in this list.

8. Old Before Your Time - Ray LaMontagne.  This album has been on repeat at our house for quite a while now, and I don't think either of us is getting tired of it yet.  Ray is so, so good.

9. Hit Em Up Style - Carolina Chocolate Drops.  Possibly the most epic cover ever.  Between this and Cornbread and Butterbeans, I want to learn to play the fiddle.

10.  Magic - B.O.B. feat. Rivers Cuomo.  An oldie but a goodie in my book.  This song gets me so pumped on my runs.  I always put it on during the hilly part, and then I do a little Rocky fist pump dance when I get to the top.  Nerdy, I know, but it makes me feel good and like I want to dance, so I think it's perfect for summer.

Ok, so leave your summer songs in the comments!

Retail Therapy: Hallelu Boutique

Hallelu is a brick-and mortar-boutique located in Wrightsville Beach, NC, a town that holds a special place in my heart because it's where I had my bachelorette.  It's also where I had the best shrimp and grits I've ever tasted, at 22 North.  Shrimp and grits is my absolute favorite thing to eat on the planet.  I've had it many times and many places, so for me to say they were the best is serious.  As an added bonus, they have super cute waiters and bartenders there.  So to sum up: Go to Wrightsville Beach, shop at Hallelu, ask around at 22 North for a cute waiter named Zach, and then order the Thai shrimp and grits from him.  It'll be one of the best days you've ever had - promise.

Anyway, Hallelu has kind of a beachy chill hipster vibe with a dash of prep thrown in for good measure.  Their clothes and accessories are super cute, on trend, and budget-friendly.  What's not to like?

Last night I wanted J to take some pictures of me with the dogs because the new blog design is almost ready! (If you need a graphic designer, hire Melina.  She's great, and she has the patience of a saint.)  So since this blog is named after my fur babies, I feel like I should have more pictures of them on here.  Except getting pictures with them requires walking them on a leash, which is NOT part of Charlie's skill set, so we gave that up pretty quickly.  But since I had a cute outfit on, we did a few quick shots of me by myself.  You know, make lemonade out of your lemons and all that.  And let me tell y'all this GROUNDBREAKING stuff right here.  Look at me - I'm all fashion bloggery with the not looking at the camera and walking around our yard so nonchalantly.  Maybe tomorrow we'll venture beyond the front porch and try a new location.  I know y'all are on the edge of your seats.

Jeans - J.Crew; Striped Tee - J.Crew Outlet; Jacket - J.Crew (thrifted); Clutch - Clare Vivier; Flats - Tory Burch; Necklace - Banana Republic (old); Bracelet - Express (old)

And yes, those are the same white jeans.  This is the real world, peeps.  I sometimes (all the time) wear the same item multiple times in a week.

PS - I made this recipe (using green pepper instead of broccoli) for dinner last night, and served it over brown rice.  It turned out like this

And it was SO good.  Make it.

Proper Topper.

Hats are not for everyone, and it's easy to make the wrong kind of fashion statement while wearing one.  But done right, they can be super chic.  From the classic fedora to a super floppy sun hat, you have tons of options to choose from.  Which is your favorite?

Mixed Metals.

I make shopping lists for each season to help keep me focused since I'm on a pretty strict fashion budget these days.  And one of my summer items is metallic sandals.  I really need both gold and silver because both unfortunately wore out at the same time.  But when I was browsing around online last night, I unexpectedly hit on a budget-friendly solution: mixed metal sandals.

1. Aldo Halley Sandal - $39.98
2. Maxstudio Valentina Sandal - $88.95 via Endless
3. Pink Studio Caprice Ankle Strap Sandal - $45.65 via Endless
4. Lilly Pulitzer Paige Ruffled Sandal - $134.40 via Zappos
5. Madden Girl Tambrey Sandal - $39.95 via Zappos

June 13, 2011

This weekend marked one year since the flood..  I was hoping that I'd have some dining room pictures to share, but we're STILL waiting on our chairs to get here (which should be tomorrow).  So one year later, we have one room finally finished.  Yay us!  Just five more to go.

Also, this weekend was the first time in the two years that I've owned these jeans that I actually fit into them.  When I tried them on and realized they fit, I was so excited that I threw an outfit together to celebrate.  I don't love the heels with it, but they were the best I could do on short notice.

Jeans - J.Crew; Top - Gentlefawn; Heels - Ellen Tracy (old); Necklace - Bauble Bar; Bag - Marc Jacobs (buy it here)

Retail Therapy: Marais USA

You guys, I LOVE these shoes.  They're ridiculously cute, and the prices are super reasonable.  Plus, Marais was started by two 26-year old women, and I love to see women doing cool things in business (especially the fashion business).  And top it all off, several of these styles are on sale right now, so if you need a little shopping break this afternoon, definitely click on over and get yourself some cute new kicks.

Mad Max.

Disclaimer: these are not the best outfit pictures ever. I took them by myself without a tripod, and I'm sure that my neighbors now think I'm insane.  Because a sane person does not take pictures of their chest on their front porch on a regular Thursday evening. Also, I'm not pregnant, but you'd be forgiven for thinking that after seeing the second picture.

Dress -Target; Sandals - Vince Camuto via Zappos (very old); Necklace - Premier Designs.

Sorry for the close-up boob picture, but I LOVE the piping on this dress.  It's very Proenza Schouler-esque, isn't it?

PS - Come back later this afternoon for some Retail Therapy!

Thirsty Thursday: Calypso Kimberly Dress

Y'all, I think I've done it.  I've found the ultimate beach dress.

This dress from Calypso is 100% silk so it will be light and breezy, and since it's purposely rumpled, if it gets a few little creases from packing they won't be noticeable.  The bright blue color is flattering on everyone, as is the racer back.  Love.

{Calypso Kimberly Long Dress - $250.00 via 25 Park}

Work It Out.

I don't know about y'all, but when I have cute work out clothes, I'm more excited to go to the gym.  Crossfit is HARD, and I tend to get really sweaty, red faced, and just generally smelly and gross - so having fashionable exercise gear makes me feel like I retain a least a little dignity.

For shorts and tops, I'm partial to adidas gear, especially adidas by Stella McCartney.  I find that New Balance running shoes fit me best, but you should definitely go to a dedicated running store and get fitted for a pair that works best with your stride.   I like sports bras with a mesh front because it really helps with breatheability and wicking sweat so you don't get gross chest irritation.  And finally, there is no better gym bag than one from Luluemon - they have so many pockets, and they all come with really handy wet/dry pouches so you can keep your stinky clothes separate from your clean ones.

Now that I've said all of this, I have to put an asterisk on it.  Except for the Luluemon bag (and the iPod) I would never pay full price for any of this gear.  TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Oops! (which are maybe just in SC?) all have extensive sections of athletic gear for super discounted prices.  Seriously y'all - even Target is too expensive.  Don't pay it.

Hot Hot Heat.

It's hot, y'all.  Columbia's slogan is "Famously Hot" and it certainly lives up to it, but usually heat like this is reserved for late July and August.  We've had highs in upper 90s every day for two weeks now, and when it's this steamy, I don't want to wear anything.  Honestly, if I thought my mama wouldn't kill me, I probably wouldn't even wear drawers.

Sadly, I am required to get dressed every day, so I opt for as few layers as possible - a sundress, sandals, and minimal jewelry.  These are few of my faves that I've been eyeing lately.

1. Topshop Nautical Stripe 50s Sundress - $72.00
2. Petit Bateau Greek Tunic Style Dress - $62.00
3. Quiksilver Sunnie Dress - $59.50
4. American Vintage Rust/White Belted Summer Dress - $65.00 via Stylebop
5. J.Crew Jessie Dress - $98.00 via Net-A-Porter
6. Madewell Zip-Back Tee Dress - $49.50

Copycat: Minka Kelly et al.

So y'all, apparently suede pumps are happening.

*Images via People.

And I really like this trend.  It's very wearable, easily done a budget, and it's versatile.  Whether you're dressing up for date night or just running out in jeans and a tee, you can wear the same pair shoes, which is always a win in my book.  If you keep it neutral, it could even work for the office, but going bold and bright for summer is fun too.  What do y'all think?  Will you wear this trend?

1. Nine West Finney - $44.48 via Zappos
2. Jones New York Givememore Suede Pump - $54.95 via DSW
3. ASOS Pump It Up Suede Platform - $101.56
4. London Rebel Suede Court Shoe - $46.16 via ASOS
5. Chinese Laundry Keep It Up Suede Platform - $77.12 via Endless

Animal Kingdom.

I have a thing for big chunky cocktail rings, especially animal rings.  I guess you could call them over-the-top or even (gasp!) gaudy, but I would just call them fun.

1. Bauble Bar Red Frog Ring - $82.00
2. Rachel Roy Hummingbird Ring - $44.00
3. Rachel Roy Owl Ring - $48.00
4. Zad Starfish Ring - $24.00 via Swell
5. Kenneth Jay Lane Carved Gemstone Ring - $307.98 via QVC
6. Topshop Giraffe Wrap Ring - $18.00
7. Noir Jewelry Shark Ring - $120.00 via Zappos
8. Noir Jewelry Elephant Ring - $180.00 via Zappos

Thirsty Thursday: Elva Fields Sun-Drenched Celebration Necklace

While the entire Elva Fields summer collection is gorgeous, this particular beauty really grabbed my attention.  I love all the color - it just seems so "summer" to me.

Wanderlust Wednesday: Jackson Hole

Even though J and I just booked ourselves tickets to NYC for Labor Day, I'm kind of craving some mountain air and wide open spaces.  Jackson Hole is maybe best known as a winter skiing destination, but it is super fun in the summer too.  There are tons of cute shops and good restaurants, and you still have lots of outdoor options to choose from - hiking, white water rafting, horseback riding.  I've been once before, a long time ago, so it's definitely on my list for a repeat visit.

*Images via Hotel Terra.

And if you're gonna go to the wild wild west, you're gonna need to go all out - cowboy boots and all.

PS - If you still need an invitation to Bauble Bar, get one here.  They have such cute stuff - you should definitely check it out.
