Tote It.

Well, it's that time of year again... graduation season!  If you're graduating, chances are that your parents or another loved one is going to want to give you a big gift.  This is a major milestone, after all!  There are two things that I think should be at the top of your list.  First, a pair of diamond studs - classic, timeless, something you can pass down to your own daughter for her graduation.  If that's not in the cards, then a good quality leather tote bag or satchel should be your second choice.  I'm sorry y'all, but just you can not carry your Longchamp bag into a professional job interview.

1. Cole Haan Vintage Valise Kendra E/W Tote - $378.00 via Zappos
2. Marc by Marc Jacobs Bianca Hayley Leather Tote - $498.00 via Saks Fifth Avenue
3. Hype Russel Woven Satchel - $210.00 via Bluefly
4. Banana Republic Market Tote - $120.00
5. Rebecca Minkoff Cherish Soft Body Tote - $295.00

So what to look for?  First, a neutral color.  I think I've said before that my favorite neutral is gray because it truly goes with everything - from brown, black, and navy to neon brights.  But you know your wardrobe and style best.  If your work basics are 90% black, then a black tight might be a better pick for you.  You should also consider size.  It should look fine just carrying it as a purse, but should be big enough to fit a laptop and/or files if needed.  Finally, go for a sophisticated silhouette - no crazy hardware and nothing overly slouchy, like a hobo.  And remember, this is an investment.  If you buy (ask for) a quality bag and take good care of it, there is no reason why it can't last for 10 years or even longer.
