Catastrophe.

I am so sad to say this but Penny Loves Charlie is on hold indefinitely.

Last Saturday night, I came home to find our poor cute little house gushing water from the walls and ceilings.  Our upstairs toilet had been overflowing for 36 hours and the water caused extensive damage.  J and I can't live in the house for the next 6 weeks or so while it is dried out and repaired ... new floors in every room, most walls and ceilings getting new dry wall and being repainted, new countertops, etc.

Looking on the bright side, we now have the opportunity do some remodeling and make things exactly how we want them.  I will be the one making most of those decisions and as I comb the interwebs for inspiration, a few posts may pop up here.

Please bear with me. I hope to be back at it after the wedding in August.

Blueberries and Plums.

After seeing these two stunning inspiration boards, I started thinking about the purple and navy pieces in my closet and how I could put them together.

I think this color combo is a fun way to spruce up your summer office wardrobe and can easily go from work to happy hour.  What do y'all think?

Wanderlust Wednesday: Scotland

So this post was going to go in a totally different direction until I came across Alladale Wilderness Lodge on Jetsetter.  My family is Scottish, but I've never been there and it is currently sitting at #4 on my actual "wander list."

Alladale sits on a 27,000 acre reserve in the Highlands about an hour from Inverness (i.e. it's up north near Loch Ness).  The Lodge was originally completed in 1877 and has been recently renovated.  It is made up of 3 buildings: the main Lodge (sleeps 14), the Eagle's Crag Lodge (sleeps 8), and Ghillie's Retreat (sleeps 4).  Meals are prepared using local, organic ingredients and there is a spa onsite.  In addition, the Lodge offers a wide range of outdoor activities like horseback riding, skeet shooting, mountain biking, hiking, and "stalking" (which is apparently just a creepier way of saying "hunting").

Even in the summer, the average temperature in Inverness is only a measly 63 degrees Farenheit and it rains about 2/3 of the year.  These photos made me think that I would pack comfortable, easy pieces, plus lots of knits to layer, and some gorgeous leather goods.

Mad for plaid.

So let's talk plaid.  When I think of plaid shirts, I think of 1994 (J has like 20 of them, of course) and wearing them unbuttoned and untucked over a t-shirt a la Kurt Cobain.  Not the best look.  But this season there are tons of cute new plaid options out there from dresses to bikinis, and the good news is that the trend has been "girly-ed up" (yes, that's the technical term) with ruffles and light, gauzy fabrics, making it perfect for summer.

Wanderlust Wednesday: Prague

Lately J and I have been talking about our "wander lists."  We really want to devote our vacation days and discretionary income to traveling extensively over the next few years... you know, before the big scary k-word (kids, people) enters the picture.  I've also been thinking a lot lately about this blog trying to come up with a cool, unique feature that is different than any of the other content out there.  Thus, Wanderlust Wednesday is born.  The plan is to take inspiration from some of the gorgeous hotels that I dig up while researching all of the crazy, far-away, glamourous places I'm gonna try to convince J to go, and translate that into fashion.  So, first up: Prague and the Hotel Riverside. (*Side note: Prague isn't actually on my official wander list because I've been a few years ago but it's gorgeous and wonderfully preserved and cheap (in a good way... no Euro), so you should go if you haven't been.  Also, they have absinthe.)

Where I would stay:

The building was originally built in 1905 and renovated in 2002.  There are 63 rooms and 18 suites.  It's located on the left bank of the Vltava, south of the castle in the Smichov district which is known for its shopping and entertainment and also as the home of the Staropramen Brewery.
