Cover Girl Outlast Lipstain and I just met but we're already BFFs.  I love the whole idea of it.  I don't like wearing lipstick because it settles in to the lines in my lips and gets chalky and makes me look old.  But gloss is annoying because my hair blows around and gets stuck in it every time a butterfly flaps its wings.  Also, I'm not 13 anymore.  I feel like I need to move on.  So I saw the Cover Girl lipstain in the May issue of Lucky and decided to try it.  "Stain" may be a bit strong of a word since it does wear off after a few hours, whether you're eating and drinking or not.  But it gives a deep, richer color like lipstick but without the stickiness of a gloss and it looks really natural.  I'm sold.

{Givenchy Printed Lips Tinted Look Lip Stainer - $24.50 via Sephora}

Max Out.

The maxi dress trend has been around for a few seasons now.  Last Spring Break (2009), I tried it on the cheap with a dress from Old Navy and it was surprisingly comfortable.  I wore it to EPCOT on an 80 degree day and even though it covers the lower body like wearing jeans, I didn't get too hot.  Sadly, that dress only survived 2 rounds with my washing machine so I've been looking for a replacement for this summer.  For me, the dress has to come to the very top of my feet (one of the few times I advise taking fashion advice from the Victorian era), and I prefer strapless or halter styles to show a little skin on top so it doesn't look dowdy.

{MM Couture Embroided Strapless Maxi Dress - $98.00 via Piperlime}

{Veronica M Strapless Maxi Dress- $90.00 via National Jean Company}

{ASOS Jersey Grecian Maxi Beach Dress With Padded Cups - $47.50}

Spring Scarves.

Scarves are one of my favorite accessories because they're an easy, budget-friendly way of dressing up an outfit.  Adding a fun patterned scarf to a plain tee, jeans, and flats takes you from boring to fashionable in one step.  Luckily, scarves aren't just for cold weather anymore.  There are tons of lightweight options in linen or cotton that are great for spring and summer.

{French Connection Check Scarf - $48.00}

{Michael Stars Touch of Tinsel Scarf - $44.00 via Piperlime}

{Rachel Rachel Roy Spring Garden Scarf - $38.00}

{Spun by Subtle Luxury Ikat Diamond Print Scarf - $35.00 via Piperlime}

{New York & Company Multi Color Dot Scarf - $16.95}

Copycat: Reese Witherspoon

Because everyone wants to look like Reese.

She wore this white sheath dress to the White House Easter Egg hunt a few weeks ago and I love the simplicity of all white with nude and cream details.  Also, I think the cap sleeves add a cool little detail to an otherwise very classic silhouette.  Here are some "real people" versions:

{Ports 1961 Sheath Dress - $625.00 via ShopBop}

{Black Halo Mercedes Sheath Dress - $350.00 via Pink Mascara}

{Cynthia Steffe "Jansen" Knit Sheath Dress - $255.00 via Bloomingdales}

Walkin' On Sunshine.

I'm so excited about my first reader request! :)  As D pointed out in response to my "Lemon wedge" post, yellow is indeed in some people's color wheel (i.e., hers) and maybe some of those people would like to know where they can find cute yellow dresses.  So, without further ado, here are 5 sunny dresses for all of you yellow-color-wheel people:

{Trina Turk Etiquette Dress - $248.00 via Nordstrom}

{Anthropologie Sunray Medallion Dress - $198.00}

{French Connection "Florida Summer" Belted Strapless Dress - $188.00 via Bloomingdale's}

{Lilly Pulitzer Kelsea Dress - $132.00}

Summer Fabrics: Jersey.

Saved the best for last.  Jersey t-shirt dresses are definitely a go-to during the summer months.  The key is to find styles with a cut that gives you a shape.    Then just add cute sandals and you're ready to go.  So easy, and so comfortable.  Let's start with the Queen Bee of jersey dresses, Ms. Diane von Furstenberg:

{DVF Julian wrap minidress* - $298.00 via Nordstrom}

{Paul & Joe Sister beaded cut-out jersey T-shirt dress - $135 via Net-A-Porter}

{French Connection Jersey Dress - $75.00}

{Asos Rare Jersey Lace Stripe Dress - $59.18}

{Chaps Surplice Dress - $41.99 via Kohl's}

* This dress comes in a ton of different colors/patterns.  I just picked this one because I like green.

Summer Fabrics: Seersucker.

Seersucker is a classic preppy fave and it makes me happy.  For me, though, I think that it should be worn sparingly.  Seersucker suits are cute on guys, but not so much on girls.  My favorite way to wear it is a bathing suit.

{J.Crew Seersucker bikini - $94.00 for both pieces}

Seersucker blazers are great for summer because the fabric is a great weight when you need to cover up against cool ocean breezes or an air conditioner working overtime.

{Anthropologie Peeking Lace Blazer - $118.00}

I found a pair of seersucker rolled up shorts at J.Crew 2 summers ago and they have been a staple in my summer wardrobe ever since.  They're so cute to throw on with a slouchy tee and flat sandals.

{Fred Flare Cuffed Seersucker Shorts - $34.00}

{Aqua Seersucker Shorts - $58.00}

And finally, what's cuter than a seersucker dress?  This one would be perfect for a summer garden party/wedding.*

{Thread Shiloh Mini-Length - $290}

*Yes, it is technically a bridesmaid dress, but it's cute and no one will know unless you tell them.

Summer fabrics: Eyelet.

Since spring has decided to skip over North Carolina and go straight into summer (not complaining), I thought I might as well follow suit and check out some classic summer pieces.  Today, white eyelet dresses.

Let me just clarify, I'm not advocating wearing white OR eyelet before Memorial Day. (I'm from the South and that's the rule; I can't bring myself to break it.)  But that's no reason not to make sure that when Memorial Day does roll around, you have a sweet, breezy eyelet dress to wear to the beach/BBQ/lake party you'll be attending.

{Lilly Pulitzer Betsey Dress - $328}

{Laundry by Shelli Segal Eyelet Scalloped Edged V-neck Dress - $215.00 via Bloomie's}

{New York & Co. Park Avenue Strapless Dress - $56.95}

{Windsor White Cotton Dress - $49.90}

{Heidi Eyelet Dress - $42.90 via Alloy)

Lemon Wedge.

To paraphrase Leann Tuohy in The Blind Side (aka my new idol), "Yellow is not in my color wheel."  But it's such a sunny, happy color and I need to get my fix somehow.  Thank goodness for shoes!  I think yellow wedge sandals are a cool, trendy way to add a pop of color to spring and summer outfits.  And the best part is, all of these are under $50.

{Michael Antonio Harvey Sandal - $28.10 via Endless.com}

{Newport News Multi-strap wedge sandal - $29.00}

{Old Navy Faux Leather Cross-Strap Wedges - $29.50}

{Pierre Dumas Fontana-2 Wedged Sandal - $30 via Endless.com}

Copycat: Jessica Biel

I am not tough enough to pull off a black leather jacket, but when I saw Jessica Biel's gorgeous white William Rast version, I thought, "Oh.  I could wear that."  How soft and comfy does this leather look, by the way?  Unfortunately, this piece costs $495 (so it better be comfy).

Here are some cheaper, but equally chic, alternatives.

{Banana Republic Heritage white leather motocross jacket - $298.00}

{Barney's Leather Funnel Neck Biker - $111.11 via Asos}

{Newport News Soft leather motorcycle jacket - $99.00}

{Steven Madden Faux Leather Scuba Jacket - $68.00 via Nordstrom}

Nail It.

I haven't had a proper manicure in months but I am finally going to have some (relatively) free time this weekend, and it is definitely on my to-do list.  I don't generally go bright on my fingers so I tend to wear "spring" colors into the fall and I am just dying over some the gorgeous colors out there this year... soft pinks, peaches, even jade-y greens (thanks to Chanel) and gray, which I bought last fall and, surprisingly, really love.  (It's on my toes right now, actually).  Here are the four shades that will definitely be in my rotation:

{Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Ballerina - $23.00}

{China Glaze Re-fresh Mint - $3.95 via Amazon}

{Tart Deco - $8.00 via Ulta}

{Sephora by OPI Metro Chic - $9.00}
